•Westminster Abbey
The Gothic monastery church in London, Westminster Abbey, is a traditional place of coronation and the burial site of many English monarchs. The abbey isn’t a cathedral or a parish church but is a place of worship and owned by the royal family. The oldest parts of the abbey dates back to the year 1050 and inside you will see some of the most amazing medieval architecture. King Henry VIII spared Westminster Abbey from his assault on monastic buildings because of its royal connections. The interior is truly a museum of English history. Be sure to visit the Poet’s Corner with its memorials to William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and many other literary giants. You will also find the tombs of Queen Elizabeth I, the “Bloody” Queen Mary, explorer David Livingstone and natural scientist Charles Darwin. Next door sits the Houses of Parliament. Explore all the underground stories of the Cabinet War Rooms beneath the streets of Westminster. See the underground bunker that was built to protect the staff and Britain’s government’s secrets during World War II. Here you will walk in the footsteps of the great Winston Churchill as he paved the country’s route to Allied Victory. Churchill and his War Cabinet met here and the rooms have stayed intact to this day. Hundreds of men and women spent many vital hours here during 1940-1945, a hideaway for the British government. Parliament preserved the War Rooms as a historic site in 1948, and access was restricted until the late 1970’s. The Imperial War Museum is responsible for preserving the site and its contents and the rooms became public in 1984. The doors to the Cabinet War Rooms were locked on the 16 August, 1945 and you will find them in the exact same order as they were then on your visit there today.

•The Tower of London
The Tower of London - Mighty fortress. Royal palace. Infamous prison. When William the Conqueror built a mighty stone tower at the centre of his London fortress in the 1070s, defeated Londoners must have looked on in awe. Now nearly 1000 years later, the Tower still has the capacity to fascinate and horrify. As protector of the Crown Jewels, home of the Yeomen Warders and its legendary guardians, the pampered ravens, the Tower now attracts over three million visitors a year. Here, the Ceremony of the Keys and other traditions live on, as do the ghost stories and terrible tales of torture and execution. But the Tower also has a richer and more complex history, having been home to a wide array of institutions including the Royal Mint, the Royal Armouries and even a zoo. As the most secure castle in the land, the Tower guarded royal possessions and even the royal family in times of war and rebellion. But for 500 years monarchs also used the Tower as a surprisingly luxurious palace. Throughout history, the Tower has also been a visible symbol of awe and fear. Kings and queens imprisoned their rivals and enemies within its walls. The stories of prisoners, rich and poor, still haunt the Tower.

•Accademia Gallery
The Accademia Gallery occupies some rooms from the XIV century, which belonged to the old hospital of San Mateo as well as to the old monastery of San Nicolás de Cafaggio. Subsequently the Grand Duke Leopold of Lorraine founded the Academy of Fine Arts with a collection for the students. At the end of the 18th century these rooms were completely restructured to house the famous museum dedicated to Michelangelo. This is a must stop for anyone visiting Florence since it houses the "David" of Michelangelo sculpted between 1501-1504 to be an outside decoration of the Cathedral of Florence, it became instead a symbol of the Florentine State commitment to freedom and independence, as well as a symbol of the Medici's defeat in 1494. It still personifies energy, vigor and courage, symbolizing the whole mankind fight for survival. His anatomy, later reproduced by Michelangelo’s contemporaries, was carefully depicted, thanks to the in-depth studies carried out by the great artist.

•Giverny Monet's Garden
There are two parts in Monet's garden: a flower garden called Clos Normand in front of the house and a Japanese inspired water garden on the other side of the road. The two parts of Monet's garden contrast and complement one another. When Monet and his family settled in Giverny in 1883 the piece of land sloping gently down from the house to the road was planted with an orchard and enclosed by high stone walls. A central alley bordered with pines separated it into two parts. Monet had the pines cut down, keeping only the two yews closest to the house to please Alice. From this Clos Normand of about one hectare, Monet made a garden full of perspectives, symmetries and colours. In 1893, ten years after his arrival at Giverny, Monet bought the piece of land neighbouring his property on the other side of the railway. It was crossed by a small brook, the Ru, which is a diversion of the Epte, a tributary of the Seine River. With the support of the prefecture, Monet had the first small pond dug ; even though his peasant neighbours were opposed. They were afraid that his strange plants would poison the water. Later on the pond would be enlarged to its present day size. The water garden is full of asymmetries and curves. It is inspired by the Japanese gardens that Monet knew from the prints he collected avidly.

•Glamis Castle
Glamis Castle has been the ancestral seat to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since 1372, inspiration for Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and birthplace of HRH The Princess Margaret. Expert guides will help you follow in the footsteps of Mary, Queen of Scots, James V, Bonnie Dundee, the Old Jacobite Pretender to the throne James VIII, the ill-fated Janet Douglas and of course tell the story of the bitter-sweet life of Mary Eleanor Bowes. The innovative Macbeth Trail, located in the Pinetum, was first proposed by Des Cotton, Head Gardener in conjunction with Tommy Baxter, General Manager. Neith Art and Sculpture, collaborative artists who work predominantly in wood, were commissioned to produce a series of seven sculptures. The Macbeth Trail at Glamis is sculpted from Oak, Douglas Fir and Noble Fir trees grown on the Estate. The artists have successfully captured the essence of the play by sculpting major scenes; the work is figurative but captures the madness, mental turmoil and tempestuous weather of the play. There is much to see at his magnificent estate and we highly recommend a visit here.

•Eilean Donan Castle
Eilean Donan Castle is recognised as one of the most iconic images of Scotland. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish Highlands. Although first inhabited around the 6th century, the first fortified castle was built in the mid-13th century and stood guard over the lands of Kintail. Since then, at least four different versions of the castle have been built and re-built as the feudal history of Scotland unfolded through the centuries. Partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719, The castle lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until Lieutenant Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap bought the island in 1911 and proceeded to restore the castle to its former glory. After 20 years of toil and labour the castle was re-opened in 1932. There are four generations of the MacRae family past, present and future who are still the Constables of Eilean Donan Castle today. You can explore nearly every part of the castle and enjoy a journey through the history of the area. Some people say it’s the most beautiful castle in Scotland.

•The Akrotiri Excavations
Some guests may wish to take the free time to enjoy the hotel this morning, but we also wanted to include the option to visit The Akrotiri Excavations. It is one of the most important prehistoric settlements of the Aegean. The first habitation at the site dates from the Late Neolithic times (at least the 4th millennium B.C.). During the Early Bronze Age (3rd millenium B.C.), a sizeable settlement was founded and, in the Middle, and early Late Bronze Age (ca. 20th-17th centuries B.C.) it was extended and gradually developed into one of the main urban centres and ports of the Aegean. The large extent of the settlement (ca. 20 hectares), the elaborate drainage system, the sophisticated multi-storeyed buildings with the magnificent wall-paintings, furniture and vessels, show its great development and prosperity. The various imported objects found in the buildings indicate the wide network of its external relations. Akrotiri was in contact with Crete but also communicated with the Greek Mainland, the Dodecanese, Cyprus, Syria and Egypt. The town's life came to an abrupt end in the last quarter of the 17th century B.C. when the inhabitants were obliged to abandon it as a result of severe earthquakes. The eruption followed. The volcanic materials covered the entire island and the town itself.

Stonehenge stands impressively as a prehistoric monument of unique importance, a World Heritage Site, surrounded by remains of ceremonial and domestic structures - some older than the monument itself. Stonehenge’s orientation on the rising and setting sun has always been one of its remarkable features. •Private Full Day Sintra and Cascais Tour
Early morning start for your full day private tour of Sintra and Cascais. Depart Lisbon and head towards Sintra. Start the day by visiting the amazing Pena Palace. The palace's history started in the Middle Ages when a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Pena was built on the top of the hill above Sintra. According to the tradition, construction occurred after an apparition of the Virgin Mary, though it was sadly all but ruined in the devastating earthquake of 1755. The current palace dates back to 1839, when King Ferdinand II bought the ruins of the Hieronymite Monastery of Our Lady of Pena and started to adapt it for use as a residence according to his romantic taste. Today the palace constitutes one of the major expressions of 19th-century romanticism in the world. Next, you will be ready to explore the unique Sintra village, a UNESCO world heritage site since 1995. You will have some free time to explore the village that the Greeks named the "Mountain of the Moon", a true fairy tale village that is also full of Muslim influences. Here you will have free time for lunch (lunch costs are not included). Moreover, you will have the opportunity to enjoy some famous travesseiros (pillows), which are light puff pastries that are turned, rolled and folded seven times, and then filled with delicious almond-and-egg-yolk cream and lightly dusted with sugar. Or you can also enjoy the Sintra cheesecakes (the first references to the famous Sintra cheesecakes date back to the XIII century; at that time, these cheesecakes were a form of payment for rent). Next, it is time to cross the mystic mountain of Sintra towards the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way you will have the opportunity to see the quaint Colares village and to learn more about local wines dating to the 13th century. You’ll also see Praia das Maçãs, a small and popular local beach. Reaching the coast, making a stop in one of the most picturesque seaside towns, Azenhas do Mar, which has a stunning view overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It is now time to leave the beautiful and magical Sintra Mountain and head in the direction of Cascais, including a stop midpoint in the wild Cabo da Roca, which is a sheer 150m cliff that forms the most western point of continental Europe. Then visit Cascais, a former fishing village that gained fame as a resort for Portugal's royal family in the late XIX century and early XX century. Nowadays, it is a popular vacation spot for both Portuguese and foreign tourists, as well as a village with small museums, picturesque gardens, a shiny marina and a pedestrianized old town. During your time here, try the most famous ice cream of Portugal, Santini’s Gelati, which you may then consider the best ice cream in the world. It is truly a gift from the Gods! Santini’s has been tantalizing Portuguese tongues since 1949. Finally, it is time to go back to Lisbon where the rest of the evening is free.

•Free Day in Granada
Granada: At the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, between the rivers Darro and Genil, lies one of the most interesting cities in eastern Andalusia. As well as its impressive Al-Andalus heritage, there are Renaissance architectural gems and the most modern facilities, fit for the 21st century. Granada has an unmistakably Moorish flavour, as it was the last city to be reconquered by the Catholic Monarchs in 1492. The gastronomy, craftwork and urban planning are influenced by its glorious past. Fountains, viewpoints and "Cármenes", houses surrounded by typical gardens of this city, create unforgettable corners in the city. It is no surprise that one of its historic districts, Albaicín, is a World Heritage Site, together with the Alhambra and Generalife. It was an important cultural centre for many centuries, under both Islamic and Christian rulers, and still boasts an admirable array of culture and leisure activities. Film, music or theatre festivals are complemented with permanent or travelling exhibitions on all fields of knowledge.

•The Night Watchman Tour
Take a walk back in time with the Night Watchman of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. There is no reservation required. The tour starts every day at 8:00 p.m. Meeting point is at the market square in front of the town hall. Duration is one hour. In the years before the dawn of the 20th century, the night watchman was one of many citizens of Rothenburg responsible for the safety of the inhabitants of this walled, fortified city. Even though the citizens who slept soundly at night in their beds trusted him to keep the streets inside the high stone walls safe, his status was less than honorable. His pay was low and his job was a dishonorable one. Only the gravedigger and the executioner were lower. His job was dangerous, because he had to guard the city at night like a policeman. The good citizens went to bed early. The people that he met on the streets were the drunks and the thieves. To protect himself and to show his authority he carried an intimidating weapon called a hellebarde. The Night Watchman gathers his followers in the Market Square in the heart of historic Rothenburg ob der Tauber, with the Councilor Tavern in the background. The night watchman made his rounds from nine in the evening until three in the morning, relying on the town hall clock to tell him when to sing his "Hour Song," which reminded the people who slumbered safe in their houses that he was still alive and taking care of them. The night watchmans horn, carried on a chain around his neck, warned the citizens of fire--the worst possible disaster that could strike a city in the days before fire hydrants. Keeping watch over the streets of the inner city, lighting the lanterns and announcing the hours in the still of the night were the duties of Rothenburg[+]s night watchman. There were six of these men patrolling the city up to the year 1920.
